Autumn Term 2009 - Mrs Chester's Class - Room 8

Our main theme of the term is TOYS and we have had some really old toys to visit us. Grandmas, Grandpas and parents have kindly let us borrow their childhood toys.

Bike Week has been one of our favourite weeks so far. We had our own mini Tour de France in the playground.  Our 'Bike It' Assembly was very exciting, and we are really looking forward to Dr Bike's visits.

We have made a great start to Year 1, and have been really working hard to develop our Literacy skills. Now we can sound our and write a lot of different words. We loved learning about Winnie the Witch, and have sorted out a new Hogwarts Role Play Area.  We have been very busy practising our key words, and are turning into real book worms.

In Numeracy we have been developing our addition skills. We can use our fingers to help us work out the answer.  During our Problem solving week, we had lots of fun with shape and space. We have been practising counting up and down, and have been learning about  measurement.

Our Science work has been all about different materials. We had great fun finding out which materials were waterproof!

Our Art focus has been sculpture. We looked at some brilliant work by Andy Goldsworthy and then we had a go at making our own natural sculptures. They are great!  Recently we have been learning how to mix different colours together.  We came up with some very unusual colours!

We can't wait to see what the rest of the year will bring...
