In November it was lovely for us all to see a hedgehog wandering around in the nursery garden. As it was very cold we knew that it was searching for somewhere to hibernate for the winter. The children have helped to make a warm place for the hedgehog to sleep through the winter. We put newspapers in a box and made breathing holes in the top and sides. We then put a layer of dried leaves on top of the newspaper for the hedgehog to sleep on. We carefully placed the hedgehog inside the box.
To keep the box nice and warm we put the smaller box into a bigger box and surrounded it with autumn leaves. We have now left the hedgehog to hibernate in peace for the cold winter.
