Miss Cox's Class Autumn Term 2011

Hello Everybody,

Welcome to our class website pages. We have all grown up over the holidays and are ready for the challenges of Year 2. We started the term thinking about what sort of environment we would like in our classroom as part of our 'New Beginnings' SEAL topic. We devised a fabulous Classroom Charter, which we have all signed and added our handprints too! The follow-up homework activity was completed to a very high standard.

The main topic this half-term is 'Health'. We really enjoyed tasting a variety of exotic fruits and then drawing them using a range of media; such as pastels, felt tips, drawing pencils and crayons. In ICT we have been using 'Dazzle' to develop our  mouse and drawing skills. We are using a variety of small apparatus in Games in order to improve our throwing and catching. In gymnastics we have adored using the large climbing frame. Some of us have even managed to climb the rope to the top!

In Literacy we have been writing riddles and exploring shape poems. We have produced some interesting calligrams. We are trying to remember to start our writing with a capital letter and to finish with a full stop.

In Numeracy we have been counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s forwards and backwards. We are learning about place value and used eqipment to partition numbers. We played some fun games on the computer. If you have time at home try the 'Woodlands Junior, Maths Zone' site or
www.mathszone.co.uk to explore more games.

As we are the oldest in school we have been chosen to have Reception Buddies. We are buddied with Mrs. Tickle's Class. So far we have met a couple of times and we are looking forward to our joint class assembly in October.

Charlie, our 'Build-a-Bear' is looking forward to visiting our homes during the autumn. He has already enjoyed a pizza with Isabel. We put our names in the 'Chance Box', so we are all working really hard to get in there so we can also take him home.
