Wow! What a busy start to the new term. On our first day back we welcomed Tempus Fugit theatre into school for a lively performance about Samuel pepys and 'The Great Fire of London'. Robert Vickers who played Samuel Pepys was very entertaining and talented. He sang and played the piano. He was a little bit cheeky with the teachers and asked if Miss Cox wanted to keep her wig next to his on the wig stand.
In the second week the fire theme is continuing as we are writing diary entries on very special paper that looks like old parchment. For homework we have formulated questions for a fire fighter, which we will share with Steve Bousfield (an old parent) who is coming to tell us about his job. Fingers crossed he will bring a fire engine.
Hurray! He brought an engine! We really enjoyed the visit and Steve was very impressed with the challenging questions we had devised. Miss Cox and Mrs. Chester were encouraged to dress up as firefighters! They said the clothes made them feel very hot and they were very heavy. The fire engine was really interesting with lots of fascinating equipment which was also extremely heavy. Fire fighters must be very strong!
In science we have started exploring materials and how they change when heated and cooled. This work will involve lots of food so we are really looking forward to it! We have already made some detailed observations of ice-pops before they were frozen and predicted how they will change once they are frozen.
