Welcome to Year 2! We have had a wonderful start to our new school year, and our SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) Topic of New Beginnings has been a great way to help us settle into our new year group.
Our Healthy Eating topic has been a super starting point for our learning. We have been finding out about the different food groups, and have thought carefully about which foods are best to give our bodies lots of energy, which build our muscles, and which help us stay strong and healthy. Linked to our food theme, we have been working on our still life drawing skills, and have been developing our shading techniques. Our classroom looks very colourful with our wonderful chalk pastel artwork of the different fruits and vegetables.
In Literacy, we have had lots of fun thinking of tricky clues to use in our riddles. We read these out to each other, and spent some time guessing what foods our friends were thinking about. A highlight of this half term has been our work on Florence Nightingale. The theatre visit was so exciting, and brought our topic to life. We learned lots of interesting facts about Florence, and have used these facts in our True/False writing activity, and in a recount of her life. Did you know the hospital in Scutari was four miles long? The children were very concerned for the wellbeing of the soldiers, and were keen to find out how Florence improved the hospitals in Victorian times.
We have been collecting for our Harvest Assembly, and our theme in RE has been Special People. We have been listening to stories about Jesus, and about the Feeding of the 5000, and we are also learning about the story of Moses.
What a fabulous start to the year! We are looking forward to the next half term and of course... Christmas!
