SUMMER TERM 2014
We are already off to an exciting start with our animals and minibeast topics! The children have been learning interesting facts about lots of minibeasts and have enjoyed being nature detectives in our outdoor environment. Our trip to Knowsley Safari Park will further enhance teaching and learning about this topic. Our SEAL themes are Relationships for the first half term followed by Changes in the second half term. This links in very well with the transition from Reception to Year 1. Lots of transitional activities will take place including meeting the new teacher. During the second half term we will also enjoy a fun filled carnival themed Art's Week with lots of creative activities taking place. We are very lucky to have one of Sefton's specialist P.E. teachers Rosie Sedman Wright to support all the Reception classes this term. We will develop dance skills for the first half term and during the second half term we will move on to 'Outdoor Adventures'. We will continue to keep you informed about weekly teaching and learning and events with the 'Our News/Your News books. Please encourage your child to write a sentence for their news as we love to share these books with the children.
During the first half term we have been learning about our body, the importance of keeping active and healthy, as well as continuing to develop our literacy and numeracy skills. Our topic is taught through all the areas of learning to give an interesting and exciting curriculum.
The children have enjoyed a fabulous science and technology week where they explored a range of experiences in our hall and studio including junk modelling, large non permanent construction, programming beebots, developing skills on our learn pads, exploring light and dark zones, magnetism and much more! Mr Mason, one of our reception parents, kindly talked to the children about aeroplanes, demonstrating how to make paper ones which of course, the children were very excited to do! We also had an exciting activity day where each reception class was set up as a different scientific area eg 'Messy Science', 'The Laboratory', 'Technology Zone' and 'Building Site'. The classes moved around rooms to experience all areas!
We hope you enjoyed your Junior Chef's creation! This reinforced our learning about healthy eating. The children enjoyed wearing their chef's hat and apron!
A big thank you to all of the parents (grandparents) who came to 'Stay and Share Week.' The children were delighted to show their grown ups our lovely maths resources and some of the fun ways we use them in our teaching and learning. We hope you got some good ideas of things that you can do at home for example playing pretend shop.
Our new topics of 'Fairy Tales' and 'Spring' are well under way. We have lots of lovely activities planned including a visit from a theatre group, buddy time and world book week celebrations. Please look at our class webpages below. Keep checking our webpages for more updates.
