Spring Term Curriculum

We are having a wonderful time in Reception learning through our new topics of Traditional Tales and Spring.  We have been acting out stories in our drama time in the studio.  We have been thinking about the different parts in a story, story language such as once upon a time, characters, settings and plots!  Our children are enjoying retelling, reading and writing about: The Three Little Pigs, The Billy Goats Gruff, Jack and the Beanstalk and Little Red Riding Hood.    Through playing and exploring in our role play areas indoors and outside we are able to talk about the characters and act out scenes from stories.  We had lots of fun creating menus in Little Red Riding Hood's outdoor kitchen and making strong houses to keep the three little pigs safe from the big bad wolf!

We have also enjoyed a spectacular science and technology week.  We enjoyed going into the “Finding Out Factory” to investigate different science and technology resources for ourselves.  We have found out about new and old technology and looked at the great inventions by British engineers and scientists.  We have developed our skills of critical thinking and evaluation by comparing similar everyday objects and talked about why some are better than others and named the materials that they are made from.  We have been very impressed with the invention challenge, thank you for all the lovely ideas of inventions which would make our lives more interesting and solve some everyday problems.

We have also enjoyed setting our own 'goals' as part of our S.E.A.L. theme of 'Going for Goals'.  In our PE lessons we have been using the large apparatus for gymnastics, using different body parts to travel and balance and look at ways in which we can make our gymnastics work better.

We will be finding out about Chinese New Year and will be using all of our senses to experience this colourful and exciting festival.
