Summer Term Curriculum

The summer term is all about 'Heroes and Villians'.

In English we are reading Traditional Tales discussing the heores and the villians. We will be reading a range of texts including; The Pied Piper, The Elves and the Shoemakers, Snow White, Toy Story,  The Boy who cried wolf, The Enormous Turnip and Little Red Riding Hood. We will then be innovating stories from our own story maps, wrting letters, making leaflets and writing character studies. There will be a big focusing, as usual, on grammar and punctuation particularly using similes and synonyms in our work.

In Maths we will be continuing to focus on the 4 calculations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will be counting in 2s, 5s, 10s, from any number, forwards and backwards, and beginning to count in 3s and 4s. We have been learning all about the place value of numbers and this will help us as we begin to add two 2-digit numbers 13+15=    10+10=20  3+5=8   20+8=28

In Science we will be naming the parts of plants and growing our own plants.

In History we will be learning all about the life of Walt Disney and Neil Armstrong.

In Art we will be discussing the work of Andy Warhol and pop art images. Children will be creating their image based on a superhero and transferring it onto a polystrene tile which will be inked to create a repeated image. We will also be looking at the work of abstract artist Paul Klee and his work 'Castle in the Sun' to make our own 'Castle in the Sun' pictures based our research about castles.

Throughout this term we will also be preparing for our transition to Year 2 in our SEAL topic 'Changes' and will have the opportunity to visit our new classroom, playground and teachers throughout June and July.
