Hi everyone and welcome to a new academic year.  Some of you may know me already as I may have taught some of your older children while I have been here at Farnborough Road Infant School.  I have taught at the school since September 2001 and I can't actually believe how quickly that time has gone.  The saying goes that time flies when you are having fun and we certainly have lots of that in room 2.  I have taught in all year groups in my time here and particularly enjoy teaching children in their early years of education.
Teaching in reception is great and I really love to see the children make great progress over the year in all areas of the curriculum.  I enjoy teaching the children in different ways and enjoy being creative and seeing how children learn with the resources we provide them with.  Continuous provision is an integral part of the day in all reception classrooms and the children work alongside each other to develop their skills of taking turns, enter into conversations and learn new skills and find out lots of new information.
Each week the children get a wide variety of experiences to learn to develop new skills in so many different areas and we like to link our activities to key dates that are well known throughout the year.  We celebrate lots of religious festivals to learn about different cultures and traditions and we encourage the children to share their own experiences through circle times, show and tell and home school news books.
I am originally from a place called Selby in North Yorkshire and I moved to Southport in 2000.  I live in Southport with my husband and 13 year old daughter, who also came all the way through both of our schools and now attends a local high school.  I am a very big fan of Harry Potter and I collect all manner of merchandise and memorabilia.  Reading is such a key skill to learn and through our "read to succeed" initiative in school I like to promote a love of books and stories so really enjoy reading stories to the class.
In the school I coordinate computing, which is a new term for ICT.  I am quite a practical person and enjoy learning new skills with technology.  I enjoy leading this subject and like to see the work that the children can do at different stages of their time within the school.  I also enjoy sharing lots of our experiences on our class twitter page so please follow us on @FRISroom2  to see what your amazing children are doing when they are in school.
