Spring term 2019
Happy new year to everybody! We hope you have all had a lovely Christmas break. Our Spring term topic is 'Fantastical Dragons'. We began by going on a dragon hunt around the school. You wouldn't believe the places we found dragon tails hiding! We enjoyed creating our own dragon island and have been using this as a stimulus for writing dragon stories. Lots of the children have been bringing in their own dragon books from home too. We learned how to navigate our way around the dragon islands using compass points and positional language in Geography. In PE we have been continuing the dragon theme through our OAA lessons. We have worked in teams to find clues and solve problems using the outdoor area. We are looking forward to creating some exciting Art and DT work through our dragon topic too!
On Thursdays now we are visited by a 'Deaf Action' group. They are teaching us how to use sign language. We can already sign colours, animals and the whole of 'Shut up and dance with me!' Watch out for more information on our lessons soon.
Our Science and Technology week is approaching and the topic this year is 'Happy Me'. We shall be focusing on finding out all sorts of ways to keep our minds and bodies healthy and have many exciting activities planned for that week. Look out on Twitter for the photos!
What a fabulous start it has been in Year 2! Thanks to all the parents who supported our Stay, Share and Learn sessions. The children really enjoyed working alongside their parents and showing them how they learn!
The children have settled into their new classes and are enjoying our 'Food, Glorious Food!' topic, which was kick started with a super new book called 'The Disgusting Sandwich'. It was great fun devising our own disgusting and contrasting, yummy sandwiches! We are also developing our grammatical skills and are recognising nouns, adjectives and verbs.
In Maths we have been using a new strategy to aid calculation called 'part, whole' model and we are continuing to embed our knowledge of place value.
In our P.E. sessions we are participating in some fun, new alternative activities such as Yoga and Hockey.
We are looking forward to our theatre visit where we will find out about Florence Nightingale.
Please check out our class pages for some lovely pictures.
