The Data Protection Act (DPA 2018) came into force on 25th May 2018 at the same time as the General Data
Protection Regulation (GDPR) this was later amended to become the UK GDPR in January 2021 (when the UK left
the EU). The Data Use and Access Act (DUAA) came into force in 2025 and amends the DPA 2018 and the UK GDPR.

These laws have been put in place to ensure personal data is protected.
