At Farnborough Road Infant School, we are going green! We want to help care for our amazing planet. As Greta Thunberg famously said - "Nobody is too small to make a difference". 

In the Summer of 2022, we received our first Eco Schools England 'Green Flag' award! 

Our three chosen Eco Schools topics for 2026-27 are:

• Waste
• School Grounds 
• Biodiversity

Walk to School Week 2027 will take place from Monday 17th May to Friday 22nd May. Run by the Charity Living Streets, the event promotes active travel to school. The 5-day challenge aims to:

- reduce car use and car idling outside school

- encourage children to walk, cycle, scoot or wheel to school

- improve air quality

- support physical health by increasing children's daily physical activity

- improve road safety

- strengthen community connections, encouraging families to walk and spend time together outdoors

- encourage sustainable habits and inspire longer-term behaviour change

- promote inclusion with accessible and active journeys for children with different abilities

Our Eco Councillors will be selected through our eco-after-school club with an application by enthusiastic sustainability champions! These eco-warriors will steer our school towards improved sustainability by acting as role models, sharing and developing ideas and steering projects such as our Walk to School Week. Through their involvement, children develop responsibility, teamwork and leadership skills, while learning that even small actions can make a big difference to our planet.
