Drama

                                                               Drama Curriculum

At Farnborough Road Infant School we are Creative Dramatists! We want all our children to love Drama. We want them to have no limits to what their ambitions are and grow up feeling self-confident wanting to be teachers, actors, sound or lighting technicians, costume designers or directors.   They may wish to pursue the subject at Drama School, university or simply enjoy it as a hobby. Being self-confident will support them whatever their chosen path may be.

To make Drama accessible, compelling, exciting and fun. Lessons will allow a practical and sensory approach to teaching and learning. This will encourage and develop self esteem, confidence, observational skills and team work. Drama lends itself brilliantly to other aspects of the curriculum thus providing reinforcement of the skills required within those subject areas. Studying in this way will begin to build schematic skills which will support and develop their ability and personal development throughout their learning journey.

Curriculum Intent

Our Drama curriculum promotes free expression, self discovery and curiosity. It empowers our children to become independent and resilient learners.

The FRIS Drama curriculum not only meets National Curriculum requirements but will provide memorable Drama lessons that will develop their skills, passion, confidence, self esteem and, therefore, prepare them for the next stage in their education.

Our children take part in workshops linked to topics, perform for parents,  watch others perform, perform Shakespeare through workshops during Arts Week, enjoy singing, acting and dancing through taking part in musical theatre clubs.

Curriculum Implementation

The Drama curriculum has been carefully built and the learning opportunities and assessment opportunities for each year group to ensure progression and repetition in terms of embedding key learning, knowledge and skills.

Drama skills are developed gradually through each key stage. Children take part in lessons linked to topics and fictional books. History will be 'brought to life' through drama. Children will enjoy being actively involved in Shakespeare Workshops and also visits from Drama Specialists in Arts Week.

Curriculum Impact

We strive for every child to achieve their full potential in Drama, develop a love of creative drama and performance, be ready for their next stage in learning and inspire aspirations for the future career paths.

At Farnborough Road Infant School, we are Creative Dramatists!
