PSHE Curriculum

At Farnborough Road Infant School we are Growth Mindset champions! We want all our children to love PSHE. We want them to have no limits to what their ambitions are and grow up wanting to be teachers, psychologists, social workers, mental health psychologists, doctors and nurses.

We want all our children to have the best start to life and to learn and apply the skills needed to be responsible adults. We want everyone to feel safe to take risks and to know that making mistakes is part of the journey of learning. Our vision is that our children grow up to be resilient, empathetic individuals who can keep themselves safe and who want to, and are ready, to make a difference.

Curriculum Intent

Our PSHE curriculum promotes our school values and ethos. From a young age we want our children to make the right choices, be sensitive to the needs of others, be respectful and polite. The FRIS PSHE curriculum not only meets National Curriculum requirements but will provide memorable PSHE lessons that will develop their personal, social and emotional learning and prepare them for the next stage in their education and give them valuable life skills.

We have 4 consistent Golden Rules from our Caterpillars to Year 2- To be kind and gentle- To try your best- To listen carefully and To be honest. All staff use this script when talking and teaching our young children about the importance of good behaviour. Our 5 School Values- Compassion, Perseverance, Honesty, Love and Kindness and Respect underpin everything we do and teach to ensure our children grow up to be outstanding, productive citizens of our school, local community and our world.

Curriculum Implementation

The PSHE curriculum has  carefully planned  learning opportunities which ensure in each year group there is a progression of skills, vocabulary, understanding and knowledge.

We are proud of our commitment in developing our children's Personal, Social and Emotional development. Our whole school Buddy system enables our children to develop their kind and caring natures as they buddy with a younger class. Children relish the chance to play with their buddies, siblings and friends in other year groups in our Friday MASH up playtimes. Children develop their compassionate natures through our commitment to charities. Every year our School Council chooses the charity for our half termly Toast Cafe donations as well as working alongside other Southport Learning Partnership School Councils for Local and Worldwide charity events eg donating our shoes to Sal's shoes for children less fortunate than ourselves. We encourage children to think of others in our local community providing opportunities for eg Little Voices choir singing at Queenscourt Hospice and Birkdale Park Nursing home, Year 1 at St John's Christmas Tree Festival and Year 2 at Dobbies supporting Teenage Cancer Trust. Many of these events take part in the children's own time showing their commitment to others.

Our daily assemblies also commit to developing our PSED skills and our understanding of worldwide topical issues and British Values. We celebrate and recognise our children's achievements praising our Friends of the week and Stars of the Week.

Our whole school Growth Mindset ethos permeates throughout our school and you can often hear our children saying ' You can't do it YET! or Never give up !'

Curriculum Impact

We strive for every child to achieve their full potential in PSHE and be ready for their next stage in learning and inspire aspirations for the future career paths.

At Farnborough Road Infant School, we are valuable, unique individuals who work as a great team!
